6 signs that you’re obsessed with social media
Social media has innovated the modern world in more ways than one, however, it has also left us in the wake of various disadvantages. Many of us feel obsessed with social media, which comprises our growth, learning, and relationships.
Here are some signs that indicate you’re addicted to social media:
1.You Experience Phone Withdrawals
Leaving your phone behind at home or even in the locker at gym is simply not an option because as soon as your phone is out of your hand’s reach, you feel a poignant sense of loss. You feel isolated from the world because you can’t update your Twitter feed, or check up on your Facebook notifications.
2. You’re Always Online!
You start your day by going through your Facebook feed, and Instagram videos are your companion through breakfast and waiting for the train to work. You check your Facebook and Twitter accounts at least 20 times each day, and even at work, your social media accounts are always working and active on your laptop or smartphone.
3. Online Instead of In Person
You prefer talking to people online instead of actually sitting amongst a group of people and making conversations. You feel more talkative and expressive when communicating from your social media profiles. Moreover, even when you attend social gatherings, birthday parties or dinners, you end up spending most of the time on your phone than mingling with people and swapping stories.
4. Social Media is a Morning Ritual
As soon as you wake up, the first thing you do is check your Facebook feed, or update your Twitter status. You go through everything you may have missed on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter while you were sleeping.
5. You Waste Time Doing Absolutely NOTHING
Not only do you spend hours aimlessly scrolling through your newsfeed on various social media profiles, but you also waste A LOT of time watch aimless videos, imagery and other content. This habit of yours has also given rise to procrastination.
6. You Experience Overwhelming Check-In Compulsions
As soon as you head out, grab a hamburger, or grab some drinks with your friends, you feel the compulsion to check-in and update your social media followers of what you’re doing and where you’re doing it. Even at home, when you’re watching Downton Abbey and having a take-out pizza, you feel it’s necessary to update this uninspiring piece of news with others.
